![]() ![]() Max narrowly escapes and winds his way to the morgue. Max stumbles through the hospital and down the elevator only to be confronted about committing murder by detective Jim Bravura, who is promptly riddled with bullets by a dirtbag carrying an uzi. In the next room lies the body of a dead man laying on the floor, blood strewn across the room. This floor of the hospital is eerily quiet. He comes awake and puts his clothes back on as the game cuts to an in-engine prologue much like the first game did. His gritty and torn voice gives narration and moves the setting from the present to earlier that night, where we see Max recovering in a hospital from gunshot wounds and more. Max Payne sits in a mansion with Mona Sax preparing for his fall. The game starts on a stormy night outside of a hospital in the graphic novel style cutscene that we've come to recognize as familiar piano strokes resonate in the background.
